Harbiye - Daphne
Under the Romans Harbiye was a place for summer holidays. The son of Zeus and light god Apollo discovered the beauty Daphne in the riverside. Apollo followed her and fallen in love with her. Daphne saw she could not escape from his love and begs to mother earth to protect her. She was transformed in a laurel tree. Since this time winners were honoured in competitions with a laurel wreath. There originated the waterfalls of Harbiye from the tears of Daphne.
